The "Why"

As we go through the 21st century, technology in the classroom is becoming increasingly apparent. What was once the domain of paper and pen has quickly been pushed aside by computers, ipads, and apps. This change in the education system has created a divide among teachers as they are at a point in which they must decide to jump on the train or let it leave the station. In my final internship, I was really interested in showing new (and experienced) teachers, the possibilities that technology brings to the classroom. More specifically, I wanted to highlight the ways that technology is pivotal within the classroom.

One very common misconception is that technology is only using the computer. However, there are so many more devices and opportunities that technology poses for the modern day classroom. Below I have compiled a eleven stars that state the reasons that technology can/should be used meaningfully in the classroom.

Students become more responsible. Technology helps students take more control over their own learning. They learn how to make their own decisions and actually think for themselves.

Technology differentiates for needs of students

If used correctly, will help prepare students for their future careers, which will inevitably include the use of wireless technology

A technology that can be used in one subject can almost always be used in another subject!

Have the ability to access learning material no matter the situation

Presenting information quickly and efficiently in a variety of different modes

Students can use their interests and make learning more meaningful

Allow students to take control of their learning  ; the teacher becomes the advisor, encourager, and coach

Bridge the divide between rural and urban schools

Connect students with peers, professionals, and concepts around the world

To provide authentic learning material to students
